10 Foods That Promote Hair Growth!

I love making hair treatments at home from the food in the fridge. Avocado, Greek yogurt, eggs, banana… and the list goes on! But today, I want to move away from topical treatments and educate you on how to properly treat your hair from the inside out.

As the saying goes, you are what you eat! We live in a time where reading nutrition labels and buying organic products is becoming common for more and more of us. What we consume obviously has major consequences on our general state of health. Also know that your diet influences the health and beauty of your hair. It's true, ladies! Gastronomy becomes even more exciting!

Here is a list of 10 foods that will help you keep your hair and body beautiful!

1. Bamboo tea

If you're like most people, you like to start your day with a hot cup of coffee. But if you replace your caffeine with another hot drink, it could do wonders for your hair! The bamboo plant is made of 70% silica, which is more silica than any other plant on the planet. Silica is a fundamental building block of collagen and therefore promotes the health of long, healthy hair, skin and nails. A cup of bamboo tea is a safe and easy way to get a good daily dose of silica.

2. Eggs

Who doesn't love breakfast food? Eggs must be the top favorite in the breakfast food category, and they contain everything your hair needs to be healthy. Eggs contain zinc, selenium, protein and biotin. Hair is basically made up of a protein called keratin. Biotin is an essential component in the production of keratin and you can literally take a bite out of it by incorporating eggs into your diet.

3. Salmon

Salmon is next on the list and its reputation as a healthy food precedes it. This oily fish is an excellent source of protein, selenium, vitamin D3, and B vitamins, all nutrients that help promote healthy, shiny hair. If you're not a big fan of fish, then you can opt for omega-3 supplements or even orange-flavored fish oil.

4. Spinach

Spinach has often been touted as a super nutritious food by nutritionists around the world. But they won't just make you strong like Popeye! Spinach is rich in vitamins and nutrients like iron, folate, and vitamins A and C, all of which are believed to promote hair growth . In fact, a deficiency in these nutrients can cause thinning and hair loss.

5. Nuts

We have all used products containing vitamin E in our beauty regimen at one time or another. Nuts are an easy way to get a healthy dose of vitamin E from within. They also contain a variety of other nutrients that promote hair growth, such as zinc, vitamin B and fatty acids. Be reasonable in your intake as they can be very eye catching and not very forgiving on the line! Add nuts to a spinach salad for a double dose of goodness!

6. Lawyers

Avocado is the only food that I find too tasty to be healthy! But indeed, this delicious pear-shaped fruit is as amazing for the health of your body as for that of your hair. The essential fatty acids found in avocado cannot be synthesized by our body and therefore we must consume foods that contain these important nutrients. An avocado will give you about a quarter of your daily dose of vitamin E. Vitamin E works to prevent scalp oxidation and protect your follicles from free radical damage.

7. Yellow Peppers

Yellow peppers are as colorful as they are nutritious. Did you know that a medium sized yellow bell pepper contains 5 times more vitamin C than an orange? Vitamin C helps in the production of collagen, which strengthens the strands of your hair. It is also an excellent antioxidant, which will protect hair strands against oxidative stress.

8. Shrimps

If there's one food I could eat every day for the rest of my life with pleasure and a smile, it's shrimp! So glad to know that it works wonders for my hair too! These delicious shellfish are an excellent source of protein, B vitamins, zinc, iron and vitamin D, all of which contribute to healthy hair growth. The added bonus is that they are very low in fat, so no feeling of guilt!

9. Cinnamon

This aromatic little spice, which shows up a lot during the holiday season, is an easy addition to your healthy hair diet. Cinnamon increases blood circulation in the body, which stimulates oxygen in our hair follicles. So do yourself a favor and sprinkle it on your fruit, oatmeal and even yogurt!

10. Berries

Berries are fantastic antioxidants that will impact the overall health of your hair by protecting you from free radicals. They are also a great source of vitamin C which not only supports hair growth by reducing breakage, but also helps the body absorb iron which helps hair regrowth.
